Vitamin D3 gets most of the attention in the supplement world, and for understandable reasons — it's one of the nutrients people are most commonly low in, and it's tied to a long list of everyday functions. But here's the part that rarely makes the label: on its own, D3 only does half the job. To understand why, you have to see it not as a single nutrient but as one half of a partnership — and the other half is a vitamin most people have never been told to think about.

What D3 actually does

Vitamin D3's headline role is helping your gut absorb calcium from the food you eat. But notice what that sentence leaves out. Absorbing calcium is step one.
